Golden Hours In Black

Summer in Berlin is as brilliant as Berlin winters are horrible - so while I keep spending my weekend in Germany's capital, I soak up every sunbeam I can catch because we all know that autumn and winter are already waiting for us around the corner with their grim faces. Let's try not to think about it!

In summer, I love spending my evenings out and about town while wearing light, sporty and yet elegant and sexy dresses like this black chiffon and lace dress, which you can find here from my dearies at DefShop. As you know, I love wearing black looks during summer nights because I can't wear it during the heat of the day. So when night comes, I like to dress up all dark and mysterious, only adding golden highlights to go with the colour of my eyes and the setting sun.

That day, we had dinner at Chén Chè, a Vietnamese restaurant in Berlin Mitte after an exiting blogger-shooting I hosted in Berlin. Next time I find myself at this beautiful restaurant, I'll definitely take loads of pictures to share with you!

Sommer in Berlin ist so großartig wie Berliner Winter schrecklich sind - während ich also noch immer jedes Wochenende in der Hauptstadt verbringe, sauge ich dort jeden Sonnenstrahl auf, den ich einfangen kann. Wir wissen ja schließlich alle, dass Herbst und Winter schon um die Ecke mit ihren grimmigen Gesichtern warten!

Im Sommer verbringe ich gern jeden Abend draußen in der Stadt und trage dabei leichte Flatterkleider, die sportlich und doch irgendwie elegant und sexy sind, wie dieses Kleid aus Chiffon, welches ihr hier finden könnt. Das kommt übrigens auch von meinen Freunden vom DefShop. Wie ihr ja bereits wisst, trage ich an lauen Sommerabenden unheimlich gerne schwarz, da es ja tagsüber gar nicht geht. Wenn also die Nacht hereinbricht, hülle ich mich stets in schwarze Gewänder und werte das ganze nur noch mit goldenen Accessoires, passend zu meinen Augen und der untergehenden Sonne, ein wenig auf.

An diesem Abend waren wir zum Dinner im Chén Chè, einem vietnamesischen Restaurant in Berlin Mitte, nachdem ich mein erstes Blogger-Shooting erfolgreich über die Bühne gebracht hatte - puh! Wenn ich das nächste Mal in diesem Restaurant bin, mache ich definitiv ganz viele Fotos für euch!

Berlin #5: Handoyo's

Who doesn't like going out to dinner? And particularly, if you're invited? So I was extremely happy and excited when my agency Powerkeks asked me to take my camera out to the far west of Berlin and pay the extremely lovely Handoyo a visit at his cute cafe and restaurant HANDOYO'S! My job was to photograph the food and location, but because I took along my boyfriend, his cousin plus his girlfriend, we also had an extremely lovely time away from actual work - and tons of delicious treats!

The restaurant is small but holds enough space to host up to 20 - 30 people at a time. HANDOYO'S also has some outside-seating which is naturally preferred in summer. The place is cozy, lit with candles and decorated with photographs from Indonesia (Handoyo's homecountry) and lookbook-pictures from his former job as a fashion designer. You can easily see that Handoyo has a great sense of style and design - his restaurant looks perfect!

A scaffolding in front of the restaurant is the only unfortunate thing about this place because it keeps people from choosing this lovely place from all the others in the area. But clever Handoyo wrapped up the metal in white floaty fabric and decorated it with light bulbs - and suddenly, the outside seating almost felt like some Arabian tent and I loved it to bits. But since it will be removed within the next weeks, Handoyo will probably have more visitors again! Let's hope so, because the food we were able to try was utterly delicious.

Since I'm a vegetarian, it's always exciting to see what the restaurants have in store for me. But at HANDOYO'S, there were a lot of veggie options and I loved each and every one of them. Spring rolls, salads, peanut sauce and fresh vegetables - all extremely yummy and even suitable for vegans (except for the egg). The dessert wasn't vegan but equally as tasty - I had black rice with coconut ice cream and I desperately want to eat it again!!!

If you are out and about in the western parts of Berlin and want to eat some original Indonesian dishes, make sure to turn up at HANDOYO'S - you will not regret it and leave the place with a smile on your lips!

Wer liebt es nicht, abends essen zu gehen? Und besonders, wenn man dann auch noch eingeladen wird? Deshalb habe ich mich auch so sehr gefreut, dass mich meine Agentur Powerkeks for kurzem fragte, ob ich mich nicht mal mit meiner Kamera ausgestattet in den weit entfernten Westen Berlins aufmachen wollte, um dem extrem charmanten Handoyo in seinem gemütlichen Café und Restaurant HANDOYO'S einen Besuch abzustatten! Mein Job war es zwar, ganz viele Fotos vom Essen und der Location zu knipsen, aber weil mein Freund und sein Cousin samt seiner Freundin als meine Begleitung mit von der Partie waren, wurde das ganze zu einem extrem schönen und entspannten Abend - mit tonnenweise allerfeinster Köstlichkeiten!

Das Restaurant ist klein, aber bietet ca. 20 - 30 Personen genügend Platz zum Essen und Entspannen. Das HANDOYO'S hat auch ein paar Plätze im Freien, die im Sommer natürlich bevorzugt besetzt werden. Das ganze Ambiente ist einfach gemütlich und man möchte hier verweilen. Der Raum ist mit Kerzenlicht erhellt und die Wände mit selbstgeschossenen Fotos aus Handoyos Heimat Indonesien, sowie Lookbook-Modebildern geschmückt - denn Handoyo war mal Modedesigner und das sieht man am Stil des Restaurants auch irgendwie gleich!

Ein Baugerüst vor dem Restaurant ist eigentlich das einzige Manko und führt leider dazu, dass viele Leute im Restaurant-Überladenen Wilmersdorf am HANDOYO'S vorbei laufen. Aber auch hierfür hat Handoyo eine clevere Lösung gefunden: das Baugerüst hat er einfach mit wallendem Stoff umhüllt und mit Lampionketten dekoriert. Als wir zum Dessert also entspannt draußen saßen, fühlte ich mich beinahe wie in einem arabischen Zelt - das war so wundervoll! Aber weil das Baugerüst bald entfernt werden soll, kommen dann sicher auch wieder mehr Gäste zu Handoyo - es wäre ihm zu wünschen, denn nicht nur das Ambiente, sondern auch das Essen waren einfach klasse.

Weil ich ja vegetarierin bin, ist es immer spannend für mich, essen zu gehen und zu sehen, was für vegetarische Angebote die Restaurants so für mich bereit halten. Aber bei Handoyo war das gar kein Problem, denn es gab massig vegetarische Speisen, aus denen ich wählen konnte. Frühlingsrollen, Salat, Erdnussauce mit frischen Gemüsen - alles super lecker und sogar vegan (bis auf das Ei). Das Dessert war zwar nicht vegan, aber auch unfassbar köstlich - ich probierte den schwarzen Reis mit Kokoseis - oh mein Gott, ich muss das unbedingt nochmal essen!!!

Wenn ihr zufällig im Westen Berlins unterwegs seid und einmal original Indonesisch essen wollt, dann besucht wirklich das HANDOYO'S - ihr werdet es nicht bereuen und mit einem Lächeln wieder nach Hause gehen!

Ukrainian Landscape Dress

“What is being awake if not interpreting our dreams, or dreaming if not interpreting our wake?”

There are clothes that fit you horribly, of course - then there are clothes that fit you okay and... well, there are clothes that fit you like a second skin! Those are the best ones, of course and this Chicwish dress really is one of those second-skin like clothes. Especially now that summer has come back for its final round of the year, all I want to wear is light, bright and feelgood dresses that scream summer with their loudest voice! Absolutely fabulous - can you make out what the print on the dress is showing? It reminds me a lot of the film poster of "Everything Is Illuminated" with all the yellow sunflowers and blue skies above. Did you know that the Ukrainian flag is coloured yellow and blue for exactly those reasons? Yellow meadows and blue in the sky - pretty neat, huh? Especially, because the story written by Jonathan Safran Foer is set in the Ukraine. My family-name also has Ukrainian origins - another nice fact, haha. It means something like "black earth" in Russian.

Well, I had an exciting weekend to say the least! Blogger-Shooting, preparing my moving house and today, a designer-meeting and a concert! Wowz! Have a great Sunday, girls and boys!

Es gibt Kleidung, die einem einfach nicht steht, ganz klar - dann gibt es Kleidung, die einem ganz gut passt und dann... tja, dann gibt es einfach diese zweite-Haut-Kleidung, die man gar nicht mehr ablegen mag, sobald man sie einmal angelegt hat! Und zu diesen zweite-Haut-Kleidern gehört eben auch diese seidige Chicwish-Kleid. Vor allem jetzt, wo sich der Sommer zum vielleicht letzten Mal dieses Jahr so richtig ins Zeug legt, mag ich eigentlich nur leichte, helle Wohlfühl-Kleider tragen. Könnt ihr eigentlich erkennen, was auf dem Kleid abgedruckt ist? Mich erinnert es irgendwie an das Filmposter von "Alles Ist Erleuchtet" mit all den gelben Sonnenblumen unter blauem Himmel. Und wusstet ihr, dass die Ukrainische Flagge genau aus diesem Grund oben blau und unten gelb ist? Wegen den gelben Feldern und dem knallblauen Himmel. Schon spannend, oder? Vor allem, weil diese Geschichte von Jonathan Safran Foer auch in der Ukraine spielt. Ach ja, und weil wir schonmal bei unnützem Wissen sind: mein Familienname in seiner Ursprungsform kommt auch aus der Ukraine und bedeutet wohl sowas wie "schwarze Erde" auf Russisch.

Also ich hatte ja ein ereignisreiches Wochenende samt Blogger-Shooting, Umzugsvorbereitungen und heute noch ein Designer-Treffen und ein Konzert - hui! Habt auf jeden Fall alle einen tollen Sonntag, Mädels und Jungs!

Flora

Perhaps it is because I partly grew up in a garden full of the most colourful flowers, cutting lavender in spring, crawling among the roses in summer and collecting plums in autumn, that I enjoy visiting botanical gardens so much. I could spend days just looking at the complexity of all the endless variations of blossoms and leaves, walking through the arboretum and trying to remember latin names for the various types of orchids. At least until I have a garden of my own one day, I'll continue to be a constant visitor of botanical gardens all over the world.

My outfit for this botanical garden outing is a clever black and cream coloured outfit that doesn't really seem all too black and white. Mainly because I've arranged all the darker parts (shoes, bag and my hair) around the bright middle (skirt and knitted sweater). It seems like a very bright, summery and romantic look - but, as usual, with a twist.

How do you like my skirt? I found it during the sales at Miss Selfridge but it was only available in a huge size 14! I bought it anyway because I simply adore the baroque print on the jacquard fabric. So when I received it, the first thing I did was sewing it down to a small size 8 by taking in the sides and the back. It took me half an hour and the skirt was a perfect fit - pretty neat, huh?

Vielleicht liegt es daran, dass meine Eltern einen Garten geschmückt mit den buntesten Blumen hatten und ich meine halbe Kindheit dort verbrachte, dass ich jetzt botanische Gärten so gerne besuche. Im Frühling wurde Lavendel geschnitten, im Sommer zwischen den Rosen herumgekrochen und im Herbst wurden Zwetschen eingesammelt. Ich könnte problemlos mehrere Tage nur damit verbringen, die endlos komplexen Variationen von Blüten und Blättern zu betrachten, durch das Arboretum zu spazieren oder versuchen, mir die lateinischen Namen aller Orchideenvariationen zu merken. Wenigstens bis ich irgendwann meinen eigenen Garten besitze, werde ich weiterhin regelmäßig die botanischen Gärten dieser Welt zu besuchen.

Mein Outfit an diesem Tag ist eine schöne schwarz- und cremefarbene Kombination, die gar nicht so langweilig schwarz und weiß wirkt, weil ich den Look interessant arrangiert finde. Das liegt vor allem daran, dass ich die schwarzen Teile (die Schuhe, die Tasche und meine Haare) um die helle Mitte herum angeordnet habe. Dadurch wirkt das Outfit freundlich, hell und ganz sommerlich-romantisch, aber durch den dunklen Anteil nicht allzu zuckersüß.

Und wie gefällt euch mein Rock? Ich habe ihn vor einer Weile im Sale bei Miss Selfridge entdeckt, aber leider war er bis auf Größe 44 komplett ausverkauft! Ich entschied mich aber, ihn wegen des einfach perfekten Barockmusters trotzdem zu kaufen und dann zu Hause auf eine schmale Größe 36 zu verkleinern. Dazu habe ich an den Seiten und Hinten einiges herausgenommen und neu zusammen genäht und das Ganze hat maximal 30 Minuten gedauert - cool, oder?!

11 Reasons Why I'll Miss Berlin

Tomorrow, I'll be leaving for Hamburg with both a laughing and a crying eye. Can you say that? Whatever... and because I'll definitely be missing Berlin, my home for the last 3 years, I thought I'd just write down some random 11 reasons why Berlin isn't as bad as some might say...

1. Hot summers are nowhere as hot and as exciting as in Berlin (and let's forget about the horrible winters here for a moment)
2. Berlin has the biggest choice of brilliant restaurants ever!
3. And everyone talks English (which is great for many of my friends who never bothered to learn German)
4. People don't mind waiting for 2 hours in a queue to buy a bloody Doner Kebab... amazing!
5. Walking home after a party during sunrise in the warm streets with your friends... so Berlin!
6. Berlin has more trees than one would imagine - the whole city is soo beautifully green in summer.
7. And everybody sits outside in the numerous street cafés for hours - me included!
8. You are literally walking on history in Berlin - almost every corner has an important historical meaning
9. Berlin has more swimming lakes than a dozen people could count with their fingers and half the people are swimming naked - Eastern German tradition, yay!
10. Berlin has got a lot of annoying street musicians, but also some very very talented ones that I love listening to!
11. And of course, many of my dearest people are living in Berlin - I'll miss you all!

Morgen verlasse ich Berlin, denn es zieht mich erstmal nach Hamburg. Das ganze findet bei mir mit einem lachenden und einem weinenden Auge statt und weil ich Berlin, meine Heimat für die letzten 3 Jahre, definitiv vermissen werde, dachte ich mir, ich sammle mal 11 Gründe, warum Berlin doch eigentlich gar nicht so schlimm ist, wie manche so sagen...

1. Heiße Sommertage sind nirgends so heiß und spannend wie in Berlin (und lasst uns die grausamen Wintertage einfach mal kurz ausblenden)
2. Es gibt in Berlin so viele so gute Restaurants wie (fast) nirgends sonst!
3. Und jeder hier spricht Englisch (was für meine Freunde, die nie Deutsch gelernt haben, sehr praktisch ist)
4. Die Leute stört es hier nicht, sich einfach mal 2 Stunden für einen Döner anzustellen - verrückt!
5. Im warmen Sonnenaufgang nach einer Party nach Hause laufen... so Berlin!
6. In Berlin gibt es mehr Bäume als man sich das vorstellen kann - die Stadt ist so wunderbar grün im Sommer
7. Und fast jeder Berliner verbringt Stunden um Stunden in den zahlreichen Straßencafés - ich auch!
8. Man läuft in Berlin ja förmlich auf Geschichte - fast jede Ecke hier hat eine wichtige historische Bedeutung
9. Berlin hat mehr Badeseen als ein Dutzend Leute mit ihren Fingern zählen könnten und die Hälfte aller Berliner schwimmt nackt - DDR Freikörperkultur, yay!
10. In Berlin gibt es zwar viiele nervige Straßenmusikanten, aber auch einige sehr sehr gute, denen ich super gerne zuhöre!
11. Und natürlich wohnen viele meiner liebsten Menschen in Berlin - ich werde euch vermissen!
