Festival Pros And Cons

Today, I want to talk to you about my personal pros and cons about music festivals. Obviously, the reason for this is my hanging out at Melt! Festival with Crocs this past weekend and boy, I have a lot to tell!

Let’s talk about the pros first, though. What do I love about festivals? First of all, the music – of course! I love music like mad!! Going to a festival with a great line-up is one of the most ideal opportunities to see a whole bunch of your favourite bands at the same place, in a short period of time and all things considered, for a lot less money than seeing each of them in single concerts. At Melt!, we had MS MR, Kraftklub, Woodkid, Atoms For Peace, Babyshambles, James Blake and many more…

Secondly, the atmosphere at these gigs is usually fantastic. The crowd is in party mood, everybody is excited and totally enjoying themselves. This brings along one of the major problems as well, but more about that later.

And last but not least, hanging out with your friends as if you were on a school trip is priceless and a festival is the perfect place for this. You can do BBQs, relax in the sun, paint your friends funny little pen tattoos, go for a dip in the lake, dance and sing together – what a beautiful opportunity to spend some quality time with your favourite people!

BUT there are some cons I really noticed when I went to this festival, more than 5 years after my last festival experience and they need to be considered as well…
Mainly, and I don’t want to sound like a snobby little princess, but it is true, the dirt, the smell and all the drunk teenagers really pissed me off. I tried to accept it, I really did, but a whole place that smells of shit and has tons of people lying around in their own vomit really turned my stomach upside down. Also, being asked every minute if I wanted to sell or wanted to buy some drugs annoyed the hell out of me – NO, THANKS, me no sell or buy anything!

Secondly, some of the bands seemed a little too bored, a little too distant and weren’t really engaging with the crowd, even though the light shows looked brilliant and the people were totally happy(ly drunk). That of course didn’t count for all the bands, some were brilliant, but now that I re-watched some of the gigs on the telly, I found that I was a wee bit underwhelmed.

And finally, well, I feel I’ve become a little too comfortable for such hardcore outside activities, eating shit food and being drunk all of the time. I’m not interested in these kinds of things anymore. Also, I never really liked that sort of school-trip atmosphere. And also, I didn’t really have my besties along with me, so even that was left out because I was there for a brand.

So all things considered, I think I prefer concerts to festivals, hotel rooms to tents and restaurants to canned beans. But that’s just me, I’ve become too comfortable and probably boring, haha. I had a great time, anyway and will show you some more pictures of my Melt! experience in the following posts!

Heute möchte ich die Chance nutzen, euch von meinen persönlichen Pro- und Contra-Argumenten bezüglich Festivals zu erzählen. Der Grund dafür ist natürlich mein Besuch beim Melt! Festival dieses Wochenende mit Crocs und Mann, dazu hab ich echt mal was zu sagen!

Erstmal jedoch die Pro-Argumente. Was mag ich an Festivals eigentlich? Zuerst einmal die Musik – natürlich! Ich bin einfach ein mega Musikfan! Und auf ein Festival mit einem echt geilen Line-Up zu gehen ist einfach eine ideale Möglichkeit, um ganz viele Lieblingsbands am gleichen Ort, zeitnah und im Allgemeinen auch zu ner Ecke weniger Geld zu sehen, als auf einzelnen Konzerten. Auf dem Melt! hatten wir unter ganz vielen anderen zum Beispiel MS MR, Kraftklub, Woodkid, Atoms For Peace, Babyshambles und James Blake da...

Außerdem ist die Stimmung auf diesen Festivalgigs oft wirklich fantastisch. Die Meute ist in Partystimung und geht total ab! Das führt allgemein auch zu einem wirklich großen Problem, aber dazu komme ich gleich.

Und dann ist es natürlich auch toll, auf Festivals mit den Freunden abzuhängen wie früher auf der Klassenfahrt. Man kann grillen, in der Sonne abhängen, seinen Freunden lustige Tattoos mit Kuli aufmalen, einfach mal zusammen schwimmen gehen, tanzen und singen – wirklich eine großartige Chance, mal wieder viel Spaß mit den besten Freunden zu haben!

ABER es gibt für mich leider auch echt einige Contrapunkte, die mir auf dem Melt! zum ersten mal so richtig aufgefallen sind und die deswegen auch genannt werden müssen...
Hautpsächlich, und dabei möchte ich nicht wie eine snobbigle kleine Prinzessin rüberkommen, aber es war einfach so, dass mich der Dreck, Gestank und die betrunkenen Teenies echt aufgeregt haben. Ich habe wirklich versucht, tolerant zu sein und das so zu akzeptieren, wie es halt ist, aber wenn der ganze Ort nach Scheiße riecht und tausende von Leuten in ihrer eigenen Kotze liegen, wird mir einfach schlecht. Wenn man dann noch jede Minute gefragt wird, ob man Drogen kaufen oder verkaufen möchte, dann bringt das mein Persönliches Kontenancefass einfach zum überlaufen – NEIN, DANKE, ich kaufe und verkaufe nichts!

Dazu kam, dass manche Bands einfach ein klein Wenig gelangweilt rüberkamen und sich meiner Meinung nach nicht genug mit dem Publikum befasst haben. Das zählt natürlich weitaus nicht für alle Bands, mache waren auch super mega gut drauf, aber als ich jetzt noch mal einige der Gigs im Internet angeschaut habe, bin ich teilweise doch etwas enttäuscht. Aber nicht zu schlimm, das ging echt noch!

Und zu guter Letzt, naja, ich bin glaube ich etwas zu bequem geworden für solche Hardcore-Draußenerlebnisse. Ich mochte früher auch nie so richtig diese Klassenfahrtatmosphäre und ja, meine besten Freunde waren ja auch gar nicht dabei, da ich ja für die Marke dort war.

Alles in allem denke ich, dass ich mittlerweile echt Konzerte dem Großteil der Festivals vorziehen würde. Aber das gilt natürlich nur für mich persönlich. Ich bin einfach zu bequem und wahrscheinlich voll langweilig geworden, haha. Ich hatte trotzdem auch viel Spaß dort und ihr bekommt in den nächsten Posts auf jeden Fall noch mehr Fotos meiner Melt!
